Abstract 1. A new variant of hemoglobin M (hemoglobin MKankakee) has been detected in a family in Illinois. 2. The spectroscopic and electrophoretic features of this new mutant are described. 3. Hybridization with canine hemoglobin indicates the presence of abnormal α chains.
