Estimating Bearing Capacity in Sand from SPT Values

Abstract

Although the calculation of foundation settlements in sand from SPT values has received attention from a number of authors, the problem of calculating bearing capacity has been largely ignored. In a previous paper the writer proposed a simple method of calculating settlement directly from measured N values and it is proposed here to investigate the possiblitity of similarly developing a method of calculating bearing capacity directly from observed N values.
