The Influence of Metabolism on Some Radiation Effects

Abstract

The radiobiological consequences of some controllable metabolic variables are considered, and an attempt is made to relate them to the biology of the yeast cell. The radiobiological consequences of starvation and of cell division are considered in detail. Evidence and arguments are presented in support of an hypothesis to account for the behavior of the dividing yeast cell. The nature of the proposed invulnerability to radiation damage of the nucleus of the budding yeast cell is discussed. 35 references. (C.H.)
