It is to be distinguished from anemia coincidental with pregnancy such as may result from hemorrhage, infection or primary blood dyscrasia.The significance of anemia of pregnancy lies in its prevalence, its effect upon the health of both mother and infant, its response to appropriate therapy and its preventability.
