The oxidation of at Pt‐black catalyzed gas diffusion electrodes has been investigated in and in 48% . The observed differences between the Pt loading dependent (in ) and independent (in ) limiting currents are not a function of differences in the diffusion or solubility of in the two acids, nor of gross variations in the wetting of the catalyst by the two acids. RDE experiments were performed to determine the kinetics of the oxidation in the two acids. Employing the wetted Pt areas actually measured on the gas diffusion electrodes, and the rate constants from the RDE work, it is shown that the oxidation is kinetically limited in , but diffusion limited in .
