It is not only our patients but also their family members who suffer from neuropsychiatric illness. Of particular clinical importance is the effect of a parent’s neuro psychiatric illness on dependent children. How to assess children’s reactions to parental brain disease and choose appropriate interventions is the subject of the following article. All of its authors are associated with the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Urbach is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Residency Education Director. Dr. Sonenklar is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics and Director of Children’s Programs at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. Dr. Culbert is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology and Codirector of the Medical Psychiatry Unit.
