Abstract

In this paper, the authors focus on efforts directed at determining how to convert the data obtained from a Global Positioning System (GPS) device into discrete trips, display these for a variety of potential uses, and also display other relevant information collected by the device, such as speed or acceleration data. They describe the use of GPS devices in a prompted recall survey, how the track points are converted into coherent trips, and methods used for preparing maps and other visual tools.
