The Warranty Alternative

Abstract

State highway agencies are investigating such alternative contracting methods as warranties in reaction to decreased budgets and resources. The advantages to warranty contracting include a greater motivation for contractors to enhance quality and innovations, and a reduced need for state highway agency resources, including maintenance personnel. The article assesses the current status of highway contracting and the issues to consider when drafting a model warranty specification.
