Efficient transformation of rice

Abstract

Conclusion An efficient practical transformation system for Australian rice was developed with the help of an optimised particle bombardment system, selection and co-transformation procedure and a simple protocol for regeneration of embryogenic callus derived from mature embryos. Evidence for stable integration of transferred genes into the genome of regenerated plants was obtained by using the two techniques of Southern blotting and PCR. The inheritance of the hph marker gene was tested in the progeny. By using this protocol fertile transgenic rice plants could be obtained within two months after bombardment.
