The Arkansas River is being made navigable from Catoosa (near Tulsa) Okla. to the Mississippi River by the construction of 19 locks and dams and a 9-ft deep channel 250 ft wide. The lock chambers are 110 ft by 600 ft and have low fixed overflow and gravity type dams equipped with tainter gates, as required by pool and terrain conditions. This project is being carried out by the U.S. Army Engineer Districts of Little Rock, Ark. and Tulsa, Okla., Corps of Engineers.
