EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF TRUCK TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE ON PAVEMENT-TIRE CONTACT AREA AND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION

Abstract

The report contains the results of an experimental investigation into the gross contact areas and contact pressure distributions produced by statically loaded truck tires. The gross contact areas are determined using an automatic imaging system that computes the contact area from a digitized data base obtained from an inked tire print. Contact pressure distributions produced by statically loaded tires are determined using a pressure-sensitive film technique.
