Abstract This report will present a review of current research in the field of scale control. The report will give special emphasis to the areas of scale inhibition, scale squeeze treatments, predicting scale deposition and removing scale deposits. Recent developments that are of particular to the oil industry are discussed together with some case histories designed to illustrate the application of good scale control practices. Those technological advances that can offer the most value-added benefits for oil producers and oilfield chemical supply companies will be highlighted. Finally, the review will suggest areas of technology that can benefit from further research and development.
