Abstract

The plants in the sea other than
\nseagrasses—what we call seaweeds—belong
\nto the simplest group of plants ; the marine
\nalgae. With few exceptions, these plants are
\nso simple that they have no distinguishable
\nroots, stems or leaves. The algae vary in size
\nfrom microscopic single-celled forms (eg.
\ndiatoms) to the giant macrophytes of temperate
\nwaters (Macrocystis, Nereocystis, eXc).
