Abstract

Africa is among the most likely vulnerable
\nregions of the world that are to be negatively
\nimpacted by climate change. Th e continent’s
\nvulnerability to climate change arises from a
\ncombination of many factors, including extreme
\npoverty, high rate of population increase,
\nfrequent natural disasters such as droughts and
\nfl oods, and agricultural systems that are heavily
\ndependent on rainfall. Under-development in
\nsome African states has also been a function of
\nexisting protracted natural resource confl icts and
\nclimate change worsens the situation. Climate
\nchange is a major threat to livelihood security
\nin Africa. Th is monograph encompasses papers
\nfrom diff erent disciplines and draws case
\nstudies from across Africa. It covers a range
\nof issues relating to vulnerabilities, adaptation
\nand mitigation of climate change and confl ict
\nmanagement. Information provided in this
\nmonograph is expected to form the basis for
\ndecision makers across Africa to formulate
\nand implement appropriate policies to curb the
\nimpacts of climate change.
