Abstract

This is a report of the abnormalities, both congenital and acquired, observed during the first six days of life in 8,716 live-born infants. Postmortem findings are not included. The difficulties encountered in reporting and comparing the incidence and frequencies of abnormalities are discussed, the method of gathering the data is described and terms are defined when necessary. The abnormalities are presented according to systems, namely gastrointestinal, respiratory, nervous, genitourinary, skeletomuscular, blood and cardiovascular, and skin.
