Abstract

Existing and emerging research suggest that vitamin D is related to good health. Thus lack of this vitamin in a child’s diet may lead to osteoporosis and other diseases in adulthood. Increasing access to vitamin D supplements is a large concern for public health professionals working to increase vitamin D access to pregnant women lactating women and children. In the past vitamin D exposure has come from the sun. However with increasing warnings to keep out of the sun vitamin D must be supplemented through the diet. Although there is no set amount of vitamin D that women and children are supposed to receive it is still recommended to supplement vitamin D through dietary means.
