1. A technic has been described for the direct endotracheal introduction of carcinogens in the Syrian golden hamster. 2. In experiments with repeated endotracheal instillations of 9,10-dimethyl-1, 2-benzanthracene in a colloidal suspension, hyperplasia, squamous metaplasia, atypical changes of the tracheobronchial epithelium, squamous-cell and adenocarcinomas of the trachea and bronchi have been produced. 3. Administration of tobacco tar, also as a colloidal suspension, produced no histologically demonstrable lesions.
