A fully automated system for the immunoassay of soluble proteins in body fluids was developed. The system accurately and reproducibly quantitated proteins to a concentration as small as 20 μg. per ml. of serum or 2 μg. per ml. of cerebrospinal fluid. Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid was performed on unconcentrated specimens. Sixty samples per hour were assayed in the system per protein (per channel), and results were obtained 20 min. after sampling. The consumption of both sample and antiserum was low, 0.03 to 0.1 ml. and 0.015 to 0.05 ml. per test, respectively.
