Abstract

Unlike gelatinase A, gelatinase B is expressed exclusively by migrating basal epithelial cells after wounding. The matrix metalloproteinase-tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (MMP)/TIMP systems may play an important role in the early stages of corneal wound healing after excimer laser keratectomy.
