Victorian Gothic

Victorian Gothic is a theoretical framework within the academic study of Gothic fiction that integrates Victorian-era anxieties about industrialization, gender, and empire into the Gothic novel’s traditional emphasis on horror, decay, and the supernatural, thereby distinguishing it from earlier Romantic Gothic models by its socio-historical specificity and realist narrative conventions.
