Vibrational Adiabatic Approximation

Vibrational Adiabatic Approximation is a theoretical framework in molecular quantum mechanics that, within the context of the Born-Oppenheimer Approximation, decouples vibrational motion from electronic motion by assuming that vibrational degrees of freedom evolve adiabatically with respect to the instantaneous electronic state, thereby allowing the vibrational wavefunction to remain in an eigenstate of the time-dependent electronic Hamiltonian.
