Valency Reduction

Valency Reduction is a morphosyntactic phenomenon in which a verb's argument structure is altered to decrease its number of required actants, typically through syntactic or morphological operations such as passivization, applicative demotion, or causative inversion, thereby distinguishing it from other valency-changing operations that maintain or increase argument engagement.
