Upper Structure Triads

Upper Structure Triads is a harmonic construct in jazz theory consisting of a triad built on a chord extension (typically the 9th, #9, 11, #11, 13, or b13) and used to enrich the vertical structure of dominant or extended chords, thereby facilitating voice-leading and improvisational coherence in jazz harmony and improvisation.
