Underground Railroad
The "Underground Railroad" is a historical clandestine network, functioning as a coordinated system of safe houses, routes, and allies, that enabled enslaved African Americans to escape from bondage in the United States to free territories and states, distinguished from other forms of resistance by its organized, collective, and transregional character.
