Tufa Formation
Tufa Formation is a carbonate depositional process characterized by the precipitation of porous, freshwater travertine-like calcium carbonate from ambient temperature waters, typically associated with springs, streams, or lacustrine environments, distinguished from similar carbonate formations by its low-magnesium calcite mineralogy and macroscopic porosity resulting from biologically mediated and abiotic chemical processes.
