Tropical Planetary Waves
Tropical Planetary Waves is a large-scale atmospheric wave phenomenon in the tropical troposphere characterized by eastward- or westward-propagating oscillations in wind, pressure, and geopotential height that arise from the meridional gradient of the Coriolis parameter and are modulated by convective heating, distinguishing it from mid-latitude planetary waves and other tropical disturbances through its zonal wavenumber structure and association with the equatorial beta plane dynamics.
