Top-down Assembly Modeling

Top-Down Assembly Modeling is a parametric modeling methodology within product design and development wherein the assembly structure and its constituent components are defined in a hierarchical manner starting from the overall system layout, with subordinate parts constrained and dimensioned relative to the higher-level assembly context to ensure design intent and functional integration.
