Therapeutic Interchange

Therapeutic Interchange is a formulary management practice whereby an authorized prescriber or pharmacist substitutes a patient’s originally prescribed drug with a chemically different agent from the same therapeutic class, selected under evidence-based protocols to provide a substantially equivalent therapeutic effect—often at lower cost—and thereby distinguished from generic substitution between pharmaceutically equivalent products.
