Temporary Protected Status is a form of humanitarian immigration relief that permits nationals of designated countries to remain temporarily in the United States due to extraordinary but temporary conditions in their home countries that prevent safe return, distinguishing it from permanent residency or asylum by its time-limited and geographically contingent nature.
