Suture Theory

Suture Theory is a psychoanalytically informed film theory that accounts for the viewer's subjective positioning within cinematic discourse by means of alternating shot-reverse-shot editing techniques that alternately conceal and reveal the camera’s presence, thereby implicating the spectator in the narrative fabric through a process of identification and misrecognition.
