Surface Wave Age is a dimensionless geophysical parameter that quantifies the maturity of wind-generated surface waves by the ratio of their phase speed to the friction velocity of the overlying wind, distinguishing it from other wave state descriptors through its direct link to local atmospheric forcing and wave development stage.
