Surface Superstructures

Surface Superstructures is a structural motif in surface crystallography that denotes a periodic arrangement of atoms or adsorbates on a crystalline surface exhibiting longer-range translational symmetry than the underlying bulk-terminated substrate, thereby forming a two-dimensional superlattice distinguishable by its larger unit cell and specific registry with the substrate lattice.
