Surface Complexation Buffering
Surface Complexation Buffering is a geochemical buffering mechanism in which the stabilization of soil solution pH and ion concentrations occurs through the reversible binding of protons and metal ions to reactive surface sites on soil minerals and organic matter, distinguishing it from solution-phase buffering by its dependence on interfacial chemical reactions at solid-liquid boundaries.
