Superexchange

Superexchange is a quantum mechanical exchange interaction, belonging to the class of magnetic coupling mechanisms, that arises indirectly between two magnetic ions through an intervening non-magnetic anion, typically in ionic crystals such as magnetic oxides, where the coupling is mediated by virtual charge fluctuations via the anion's orbitals.
