Submesoscale Dynamics

Submesoscale Dynamics is a mesoscale oceanographic process category distinguished by its spatial scales of approximately 0.1 to 10 kilometers, where rotational and stratification effects are balanced, and characterized by strong ageostrophic motions, frontogenesis, and rapid exchanges of heat, momentum, and tracers in the upper ocean.
