Stress Redistribution

Stress Redistribution is a mechanical process in rock mechanics whereby the spatial distribution of stress within a rock mass is altered in response to the creation or modification of underground openings, resulting in the transfer of load from highly stressed or failed zones to adjacent or deeper rock, thereby influencing the stability of underground excavations and surrounding structures.
