Spore Maturation

Spore Maturation is a developmental process in bacterial sporulation wherein the dormant spore acquires its full resistance properties and structural stability through the sequential assembly and modification of specialized spore layers, distinguishing it from earlier stages of sporulation by the completion of core dehydration, cortex cross-linking, and coat protein consolidation.
