Soviet Cinema is a national film tradition of the Soviet Union characterized by state-controlled production and distribution, ideologically oriented narratives rooted in Marxism-Leninism, and formally innovative practices—especially theories and uses of montage—that developed from the post-1917 revolutionary period through the end of the USSR.
