Smear Layer Interaction

Smear Layer Interaction is a dental adhesion phenomenon defined as the interfacial chemical and mechanical engagement between dental adhesive materials and the denatured collagen-rich debris layer formed on dentin or enamel surfaces during tooth preparation, distinguishing it from other adhesive interactions by its dependency on the modification, removal, or penetration of the inorganic and organic components of the smear layer to achieve durable bonding.
