Sliding Stability is a performance criterion in geotechnical engineering that assesses the resistance of an earth retaining structure or foundation against lateral displacement under applied horizontal forces, distinguished from other stability criteria by its focus on the mobilization of shear strength along the base or interface rather than rotational failure or bearing capacity.
