Shelf-slope Refraction

Shelf-Slope Refraction is a hydrodynamic phenomenon in coastal oceanography wherein incident wave energy undergoes directional modification due to bathymetric gradients across the continental shelf and slope, distinguished by the systematic bending of wave fronts resulting from spatial variations in water depth that alter wave celerity and propagation direction.
