Shallow-Water Refraction is a hydrodynamic phenomenon in coastal oceanography wherein surface waves undergo directional change due to spatial variations in wave speed as they propagate across uneven bathymetry in shallow water, distinguishing it from deep-water refraction by its dependence on bottom topography.
