Segregation Load

Segregation Load is the genetic burden arising in a population when deleterious recessive alleles are maintained at higher frequencies than expected under mutation-selection balance due to their protective effect in heterozygotes, thereby reducing the mean fitness of the population through the continual production of less fit homozygous genotypes during segregation.
