Reservoir Compaction

Reservoir Compaction is a geomechanical phenomenon in which the reduction of pore pressure due to fluid extraction induces irreversible deformation and volumetric shrinkage of the reservoir rock, distinguished from related deformation processes by its direct coupling to pore pressure decline and its impact on permeability, subsidence, and well integrity in hydrocarbon or geothermal reservoirs.
