Pull-out Toughening

Pull-Out Toughening is a ceramic toughening mechanism in which enhanced fracture resistance arises from the energy dissipated during the extrusion of reinforcing fibers or elongated grains from a matrix, distinguished from other mechanisms by the physical debonding and subsequent sliding frictional work required to pull the inclusions out of their surrounding matrix.
