Proxy Deterrence is a strategic security mechanism within international relations theory, specifically denoting a deterrent posture wherein a state prevents aggression against a proxy actor by credibly threatening retaliation against the aggressor, thereby extending deterrence indirectly through third-party alliances or sponsorships rather than direct defense commitments.
