Protonema Development

Protonema Development is a developmental process in bryophytes whereby a haploid spore germinates to form a filamentous, chlorophyllous, typically polarized and mitotically active structure that serves as the primary phase of gametophytic growth and gives rise to the leafy or thalloid gametophore through apical cell differentiation.
