Primary Auditory Cortex

The Primary Auditory Cortex is the region of the cerebral cortex, specifically located within the temporal lobe and centered on the transverse temporal gyri of Heschl, that serves as the primary cortical recipient of auditory input from the medial geniculate nucleus of the thalamus and is fundamentally responsible for the initial cortical processing of sound features such as frequency, intensity, and temporal patterns.
