Plastic Hinge Formation

Plastic Hinge Formation is a structural mechanics phenomenon in which a localized region of a reinforced concrete member undergoes inelastic deformation under seismic loading, reaching a state of yielding and moment redistribution that enables rotational capacity while maintaining load-carrying ability, thereby acting as a ductile hinge within the capacity design framework.
