Petroglyphs is a subfield of archaeology and anthropology focused on the study of images and symbols created by removing part of a rock surface through carving, pecking, or scratching, analyzing their form, distribution, and context to reconstruct past human cognitive systems, communication strategies, and cultural landscapes.
